The distinguishing feature of experimental psychology is not so
much the nature of its theories as the methods used to test their
validity. The first edition of Experimental Design and Statistics
provided a clear and lucid introduction to these methods and the
statistical techniques which support them. For this new edition the
text has been revised, the coverage of two-sample tests has been
extended, and new sections have been added introducing one-sample
tests, linear regression and the product-moment correlation
coefficient.
Problems associated with the applications of experimental design
and how to use observations of behaviour in research are key
questions for all introductory students of psychology. This new and
expanded edition provides them with an invaluable text and source.
365 Days of Keeping Watch and Finding Hope The absolute certainty
of Christ’s return is proclaimed all through the Bible. God has
given us many prophecies about this wonderful event to fill us with
hope. In a world that is descending deeper into evil and darkness,
Bible prophecy is God’s way of assuring us that, ultimately,
goodness and righteousness will prevail. One Day Nearer is an
invitation to let the great truths and promises found in Bible
prophecy encourage you. As you read the 365 daily devotions within,
you will see God’s love, power, and wisdom on display in all that
He has done and will do at Christ’s first and second comings
learn what it means to live wisely in these last days and set your
mind on things that are above discover the many ways God is
committed to sustaining you today and will bless you in the future
The more we take God’s prophetic promises to heart, the more we
will live each day with an eternal perspective—one that enables
us to persevere through life’s challenges, live in anticipation
of Christ’s return, and rejoice in the wonders of heaven and
eternity.
Surfing the Cosmos is an original book of photographs and text that
visually explores the high/low of energy in the slums of Rio de
Janeiro as compared with the high-tech physics of CERN, where
discovering the origins of the universe and the elementary
particles from which it is made are examined. Within this visual
story are the unplanned beautiful drawings that humans make in
space with electrical wires, whether from the favela or CERN. These
"drawings" inspired a series of artworks/photographs that are
pictured in this book, often along with their photographic source
or the spirit of the community from which they are derived (either
favela or CERN). The human energy of the favela is also mirrored in
CERN with one specific comparison of the graffiti from Rio and the
chalkboards of CERN, both viewed as works of art and sources that
motivated the author's response as demonstrated in his previous
works through examples including paintings, fashion scarves,
handmade rugs from Nepal, bamboo cotton face masks along with
surfboards (chalkboards) and skatedecks.

New information is presented by one of the world's foremost
authorities on weathervanes in this fascinating study. Classic and
never-before-seen pieces illustrate the distinctive vitality of
this folk art form. Weathervanes from the mid to late 19th century
have come to be considered three-dimensional sculpture, suitable
for decorating modern corporate offices and homes. Dynamic wooden
and metal weathervanes are organized into groups by the assorted
forms they depict. Manufacturers are identified, and their
back-grounds are explored. The weathervanes in this superb book are
guaranteed to inspire an active interest in weathervane collecting.

If you have ever wondered how we get from the awesome impersonality
of the Big Bang universe to the point where living creatures can
start to form, and evolve into beings like you, your friends and
your family, wonder no more. Steve Miller provides us with a tour
through the chemical evolution of the universe, from the formation
of the first molecules all the way to the chemicals required for
life to evolve. Using a simple Hydrogen molecule - known as
H-three-plus - as a guide, he takes us on a journey that starts
with the birth of the first stars, and how, in dying, they pour
their hearts out into enriching the universe in which we live. Our
molecular guide makes its first appearance at the source of the
Chemical Cosmos, at a time when only three elements and a total of
11 molecules existed. From those simple beginnings, H-three-plus
guides us down river on the violent currents of exploding stars,
through the streams of the Interstellar Medium, and into the delta
where new stars and planets form. We are finally left on the shores
of the sea of life. Along the way, we meet the key characters who
have shaped our understanding of the chemistry of the universe,
such as Cambridge physicist J.J. Thomson and the Chicago chemist
Takeshi Oka. And we are given an insider's view of just how
astronomers, making use of telescopes and Earth-orbiting
satellites, have put together our modern view of the Chemical
Cosmos.

Even as Jethri's initiation into the mysteries and joys of Liaden
Festival bring him to manhood he's forced to face necessity and the
facts of life: his adoption has also invigorated a net of
unfinished Balance far more complex and potentially deadly than a
simple Terran blood feud. He must embrace his Terran birthright as
well as his Liaden connections while leaving behind the safety of

The kompani sees none as an enemy, and yet few as friend. The
kompani exists in many places, living quietly in the shadows,
thriving off the bounty that others have no wit to secure, nor
skill to defend. Their private history is unwritten; their recall
rooted in dance and dream. The humans of Clan Korval are in many
ways the opposite of the kompani. The interstellar trading clan is
wealthy in enemies, fortunate in friends. Korval protects itself
with vigor, and teaches even its youngest children the art of war.

The three Liaden Universe(R) universe "origin" novels collected
together for the very first time in one omni edition Across a
fallen galaxy, the Liaden have risen to take on the challenge of
bringing trade and civilization to the stars and, in the process,
made themselves the aristocrats of known space. Bred to scout, to
pilot and to trade, Clan Korval is ascendant among other families
arrayed within the incredibly intricate and formal Liad social
structure. But along the way Korval makes powerful enemies. Lee and
Miller quite simply set the modern standard for full-on, audacious
space opera.
"Crystal Soldier"
The galaxy is in danger. A mysterious alien race of energy being
called the "shereika" is rapidly unmaking - dissipating, lock,
stock and quark -- entire star systems. Humans are making their
last stand. M. Jela is a top-of-the-line of soldier who realizes
the peril and persuades a talented space ship pilot named Cantra
yos'Phelium to help what humans remain to escape to an alternate
reality with unpopulated, but livable, star systems: the Liaden(R)
universe
"Crystal Dragon"
Cantra is revealed to be no merely a great pilot, but a genetically
engineered "aelantaza," or assassin and spy whose specialty is
taking on the entire personality of her "cover," so much so that
she believes it herself. She remakes herself, as only a "aelantaza"
can, and infiltrates the scholarly towers on the university world
of Landomist where she narrowly avoids being killed in scholarly
conflicts. There she liberates the scholar Liad dea'Syl, along with
the equations for escape stored inside his head. Once in her new
domain, Cantra creates a hereditary alliance to protect her child
by Jela - to be known (and become legendary) as Clan Korval.
"Balance of Trade"
Young Jethri Gobelyn is a young Terran, working on his family's
trading spaceship. Jethri has ambition, and he sets out to make a
name for himself in the time-honored fashion of his family by
investing in a trading scheme with what he takes to be a bona fide
Liaden(R) master trader. But when Jethri discovers he's been had,
Jethri must master the intricacies of Liaden society, which include
many formal rules and regulations of behavior, to regain his place
- and face - within the clan.
